The band are based in Edinburgh though we all have cars / van and are prepared to travel further a field such as other areas of Scotland and North East England.
The Hoodoos (formerly Hoodoo Storm) are a very experienced five-piece band, based in the Edinburgh area. The band play electric blues and blues based classic rock with gusto and passion. Formed post lockdown in late 2022 – early 2023 by guitarist Jools Blake.
The band line-up consists of:
Colin Whybrow on Lead Vocals
The Hoodoos spent many weeks looking for the right singer. They were looking for a strong singer who could soar over the band. As soon as Colin came into band rehearsal, they knew they had found they're singer! With years of singing experience, Colin has a strong, powerful voice and is versatile enough to sing softly or growl or soar. His voice takes in influences from Blues, Soul and Rock.
Jools Blake on Lead Guitar and Backing Vocals
Jools has been playing guitar for over 30 years. He’s played in many bands across a range of genres, from jazz to wedding bands. Most recently, he was part of an acoustic duo called Double Trouble who played regularly around Edinburgh. He’s returned to what does best: playing blues & blues based classic rock.
Neil Stephen on Harmonica and Saxophone
With many decades of playing experience in saxophone, harmonica and guitar, Neil started off his musical journey on guitar in the late 70s. He’s an important asset to the band and enhances any track with saxophone or harmonica, complimenting his fellow musicians. Neil has played in many genres from swing, jazz and blues, rock to a rock-a-billy band. He also currently also plays saxophone in Lazy Horse.
Tom Page on Bass
A very knowledgeable and experienced guitarist with decades of experience, Tom took up bass during lockdown and has not looked back. His playing performance, dedication and musical knowledge make him a vital part of The Hoodoos tight and lively band rhythm section. Tom also plays jazz bass in a community-based project and studies bass guitar under Marco Sollazzo.
John Slater on Drums
A strong and solid drummer, John has excellent time keeping, with dynamics and flamboyance when required. He has considerable live and recording experience playing various genres from rock to 80s electronica. He’s played with various bands in London, Glasgow and Edinburgh from 1980 onwards.
