The band is originally from Scarborough, but its members are now spread out around England and so are available to work across the country. They have recently performed in locations as diverse as Darlington, Hull and Warwick, but are now particularly looking to do more playing in London and the surrounding area.
The Jelly Roll Jazz Band are a small traditional ('Dixieland') jazz group, playing a mixture of New Orleans standards, 1920s hits and jazzy takes on more modern tunes. Their music is characterised by a sense of lighthearted jollity, and permeated with dashes of eccentric humour that make it entertaining for audiences of all ages.
Although they usually play as a trio, the band has around 8 regular members, with the exact line-up depending on the type of event and which musicians are available. They play completely acoustically, so can easily perform outdoors or move around over the course of an event.
They take much of their inspiration from the greats of jazz such as Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton, but often mix this with the surreal humour of Spike Jones and The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band to produce music that doesn't take itself too seriously. This is a band that isn't afraid to have fun with the music, and this sense of playfulness shines through in their lively and exuberant performances.
