The band is based in Edinburgh, but is able to play around the UK.
This all female band, of three nationalities, has been assembled as a response to Ali Affleck’s pioneering and critically acclaimed ‘Preaching Divas’ project which focuses on the ground-breaking (and mostly forgotten) women of jazz & Blues. Since the The Red Hot Rhythm Makers went ‘public’ in 2018 they have had rave reviews from very happy audiences!
The band provide fun, accessible New Orleans and Mississippi jazz and blues with a relaxed feel and are not locked into any ridged ‘traditional jazz’ moulds.
Their repertoire consists of old American prohibition era folk, hot roots jazz, pre- electric Blues and Hokum with an occasional wee nod to gospel... they also perform some music that is a bit more modern (circa 1940s) and we have some original RHRM songs in the making too!
Swing dancers will love the mixed tempos and the brass heavy line up and as they have a swing dancer in the band they are uniquely placed to provide music for swing dance events!
The Red Hot Rhythm Makers as players of ‘Street Jazz’ and it speaks to all ages, all walks of life and both jazz and non-jazz fans alike, this is exactly the way this cheeky music was born and this is the message they wish to share to one and all.
The RHRM brand is evolving quickly into its own unique style - with many four part harmonies, call and response and every band member singing, this is a truly unique band that will liven up any event!
