The band is based in Edinburgh but perform throughout Scotland regularly as well as the rest of the UK, the US and further afield.
Fronted by Ali Affleck- who was awarded the prestigious 'Best Jazz Vocalist 2014/15' by the Scottish Jazz Federation, Speakeasy Swing have a fondness for early Hot Jazz and the upbeat ‘Tin Pan Alley’ movement. Working the not so standard tunes of old in with the Great American Songbook, the Speakeasy Swing; repertoire is energetic and lively - with some sassy and seductive numbers thrown into the mix just for fun .
With comparisons to Peggy Lee and the vocal styling of of an young ‘optimistic’ Billie Holliday...vocalist Ali Affleck loves to share the stage and revels in the artistry of her band.
Adding a bona fide seal of approval to the quality of performance- Stephen Duffy of BBC Jazzhouse recently stated that, "I can't think of another young Scottish jazz singer who can sing this kind of material so authentically and so swingingly - hence her award."
The band was also nominated for 'Best Ensemble of the year 2014' and their album 'Le Debut' was shortlisted for 'Jazz Album of the Year, 2013'
The band is composed ENTIRELY of award winning and highly respected FULL TIME PROFESSIONAL Jazz artists - they are all scene leaders in their respective instruments and their level of musicality is outstanding. Speakeasy Swing perform regularly for the Swing dance community, the BBC and STV and Ali tours every year in the USA - in San Diego, Boston and New York. The band have been invited to perform at every big Jazz festival in Scotland since 2011 and Ali holds several residencies at high profile venues in Edinburgh. . in addition to private functions and other high profile residencies in Edinburgh.
