It’s been another busy week at Freak Music seeking out and bringing on board more of the UK top function and wedding bands. Some of my personal favorites to join this week include:

The Galloway Consort
Authentic 15th – 17th European music played with gusto and passion on on appropriate instruments – viols, recorders, early reed instruments, renaissance guitar, lute and all manner of percussion. This band actually hummed and hawed about joining forces with Freak as they weren’t ‘fit in’ but we’re a broad church here.

These guys, a three piece from London conjure up the spirit of the 1940s and 1950s by reimagining the sounds of honky tonk, R&B and zydeco music. Taking inspiration from the songs of Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Big Joe Turner, Hank Williams Sr, The Carter Family and Clifton Chenier, Gumbo La La take an old sound – detailed harmonies, accordion, fiddle, double bass, and acoustic guitar – and make it new. This band have at a stroke doubled the number of bands with the word ‘Gumbo’ in their title. they have also introduced the Freak gang to the word Zydeco.

This three piece folk band specialise in traditional Scots, Irish, English & Eastern European music. Fronted by the multi-instrumentalist (and multiple Freak music profile occupier) Ramona Egle they take the music of these places and fuse it with their own vast experience to make something unique.

This Wales based powerful and charismatic solo singer has only been professional for a year but has already built up a small following. Her rendition of the Stones classic Wild Horses (available to listen to on her profile page) almost broke the windows in the office and we were convinced she should go on the books immediately.
